The ritual

The traditional Moroccan hammam ritual

The Moroccan bath, or hammam, is a centuries-old cleansing ritual built around heat, steam and slow exfoliation rather than massage strokes. You begin in a warm steam room that softens the skin and opens the pores, preparing the body for the treatment that follows.

Once your skin is softened, your therapist applies beldi black soap — a traditional olive-based paste rich in vitamin E — and lets it sit while the steam continues to work. The final stage is exfoliation with a kessa glove, a textured mitt that lifts away dead skin in visible layers.

Our hammam suite in Business Bay is finished with hand-carved Moroccan tilework and has its own steam room, built to recreate the ritual as it is practised in Marrakech.

How the session runs

What to expect, start to finish

  1. 1

    10–15 minutes of steam

You change into the disposable underwear we provide, then let the heat soften your skin and open the pores.

  2. 2

    Black soap & kessa glove

Traditional olive-based beldi soap is applied by hand and left to absorb, then dead skin is lifted away in visible layers.

  3. 3

    Rinse & moisturise

A warm rinse and a moisturising finish. Skin looks brighter the same day; any redness fades within the hour.

Your visit

What happens during your Moroccan bath

You'll change into disposable underwear, which we provide, and move into the private steam room for around 10–15 minutes to let the heat soften your skin. Your therapist then applies the black soap by hand and allows it to absorb.

Next comes the exfoliation itself: firm, sweeping strokes with the kessa glove across the whole body, removing dead skin that ordinary showering never reaches. A warm rinse follows, then a moisturising finish to lock in hydration.

Expect your skin to look visibly brighter the same day, with the softness lasting for several weeks. Some redness immediately after exfoliation is normal and fades within an hour.

Best for

Benefits for your skin

Regular hammam treatments remove the buildup of dead skin that causes dullness, rough patches and ingrown hairs, leaving skin measurably smoother and more receptive to moisturiser. The steam and black soap combination is especially effective before a special occasion, a self-tan application, or simply as a monthly reset for skin exposed to Dubai's air conditioning and heat. It suits most skin types, though very sensitive or recently sun-exposed skin should be mentioned when booking so we can adjust the exfoliation pressure.

Moroccan Bath questions

Frequently asked questions

What is a Moroccan bath?

A traditional hammam ritual combining warm steam, beldi black soap application and full-body exfoliation with a kessa glove, followed by rinsing and moisturising.

Is a Moroccan bath the same as a massage?

No — it is a steam and exfoliation ritual focused on the skin. You can combine it with a massage treatment on the same visit; ask our team when booking.

What should I wear to a Moroccan bath?

Disposable underwear is provided. Bring nothing else — towels, black soap and all products are included.

How often should I get a Moroccan bath?

Most guests book every 3 to 4 weeks to keep skin smooth, though it's equally popular as a one-off treat before an event.
